# Tutorials: Setting Up the Translation Bot

Get your channel ready for automatic translations in about two minutes.

## How do I add a translation bot to my channel, step by step?

Add a translation bot to your channel. With Universal Translator that takes about two minutes, and neither you nor your viewers install anything:

1. Sign in with your Twitch account at https://www.universal-translator.io/ and authorize Universal Translator.
2. Open Settings and add your Twitch channel.
3. Choose the language you want chat translated into, usually the one you stream in.
4. Go live. Messages in other languages are translated in chat within a few seconds.

Tip: type /mod TranslatorUniversalis in your chat. The bot does not use any moderator powers; the role only keeps AutoMod and slow mode from holding translations back.

## How long does setup take?

About two minutes from signing in to translated chat. After that the bot stays in your channel across every stream, with nothing to restart and nothing for you to keep running.

## How do I answer a viewer in a language I don't speak?

Answer anyone in a language you don't speak: the !translate command posts your message, translated, right in chat. Available on paid plans.

1. Type !translate, a language code and your message in chat, for example: `!translate es Thanks for the raid, welcome everyone!`
2. The bot posts your message, translated into that language, in the same chat.

Language codes are the usual two-letter ones, such as es (Spanish), pt (Portuguese), de (German) or ja (Japanese). Your mods and viewers can use the command too.

## Run a Giveaway on Stream

1. Open Giveaways in your dashboard and add a reward — give it a title and an entry command that viewers type to join. You can queue several at once and start them whenever you like.
2. Open the Overlays page, copy your Browser Source URL, and add it as a Browser Source in OBS at 1920×1080. Then pick a theme — people, ships, or pets — and choose whether to show the scenery and the entry-command banner.
3. Start the giveaway from your dashboard, or let your mods start it with a chat command. As viewers type your entry command, they pop onto the overlay and wander your scene in real time.
4. When you are ready, draw a winner from the dashboard. The winner is announced in your chat, and the crowd walks off the overlay until your next round.

## What can Universal Translator not do?

- It translates chat, not your voice: there are no subtitles or captions of your stream audio.
- It works on Twitch only for now.
- Replying with !translate needs a paid plan. Incoming chat is translated on every plan, including the free one.

If you need subtitles of your voice, StreamTranslate does that and runs alongside the bot: https://streamtranslate.live/?utm_source=universal-translator.io&utm_medium=referral
