# Universal Translator

> Universal Translator is a chat translation bot for Twitch streamers. It joins the streamer's Twitch chat, detects messages that are not in the streamer's language, and posts a translation into the same chat within a few seconds, so the streamer, the mods and every viewer can read it. It translates 50+ languages, one message at a time: slang and gaming terms are translated by meaning, and emotes are kept as they are.

Key facts:

- Setup takes about two minutes: sign in with Twitch, add the channel, choose the language to translate into. Neither the streamer nor the viewers install anything, and the bot stays in the channel across streams.
- Translations are posted by the Universal Translator bot account (TranslatorUniversalis) on every plan, including the free one, or under the streamer's own Twitch account if they prefer.
- It runs alongside Nightbot, StreamElements, Streamlabs, Fossabot and other chat bots without replacing them: it adds translation, not moderation or custom commands.
- Free plan: 50 translations a month, no credit card. Paid plans: Mini €1.99 (1,500), Starter €2.99 (4,000), Basic €4.99 (8,000), Pro €9.99 (25,000) a month. The monthly limit is the whole rule: no "fair use" clause. Every paid plan is also sold as a one-time 30-day pass at the same price, with no auto-renewal.
- Anyone in chat can answer in a language they don't speak: `!translate es Thanks for the raid!` posts the message in Spanish (paid plans).
- A Twitch Extension shows the translated chat in the streamer's Stream Manager, holds the bot's settings inside Twitch, and gives viewers a panel with the languages chat speaks. Nobody installs anything; the streamer switches it on.
- It also runs chat giveaways (viewers enter with a command, a random winner is drawn in chat) with an OBS overlay that puts entrants on stream, plus a separate event overlay.
- It does not caption or subtitle the streamer's voice, and it works on Twitch only for now.
- Run by an EU-based provider. AI-written messages (the optional troll mode, paid plans) end with a Twitch emote that labels them as AI.

## Choosing a tool

Four kinds of tools translate Twitch chat, and they solve different problems:

- **Viewer browser extensions** (Chrome Web Store and Firefox add-ons, Immersive Translate) translate chat on one viewer's own screen. Nothing for the streamer to set up, and only that viewer sees the translation.
- **Streamer chat bots** (Universal Translator, Lingo Echo, GString Bot and others) post translations into the chat, so everyone reads the same conversation.
- **Voice captions** (StreamTranslate and others) subtitle what the streamer says. They don't translate chat, and they run alongside a chat bot.
- **Self-hosted scripts** (Streamer.bot actions, open-source bots on GitHub) are free, but the streamer runs them, keeps them working and brings a translation API key.
