# Universal Translator: a Twitch chat translator bot for streamers

Automatically translate your Twitch chat in 50+ languages — slang translated by meaning, emotes kept as they are — so every viewer can join the conversation.

## How do I translate my Twitch chat automatically?

Add a translation bot to your channel. With Universal Translator that takes about two minutes, and neither you nor your viewers install anything:

1. Sign in with your Twitch account at https://www.universal-translator.io/ and authorize Universal Translator.
2. Open Settings and add your Twitch channel.
3. Choose the language you want chat translated into, usually the one you stream in.
4. Go live. Messages in other languages are translated in chat within a few seconds.

Tip: type /mod TranslatorUniversalis in your chat. The bot does not use any moderator powers; the role only keeps AutoMod and slow mode from holding translations back.

## What is a chat translation bot?

A chat translation bot is an account in your Twitch chat that detects messages in other languages and posts a translation into the same chat, so you, your mods and every viewer can read them.

## How do I answer a viewer in a language I don't speak?

Answer anyone in a language you don't speak: the !translate command posts your message, translated, right in chat. Available on paid plans.

1. Type !translate, a language code and your message in chat, for example: `!translate es Thanks for the raid, welcome everyone!`
2. The bot posts your message, translated into that language, in the same chat.

Language codes are the usual two-letter ones, such as es (Spanish), pt (Portuguese), de (German) or ja (Japanese). Your mods and viewers can use the command too.

## Browser extension or bot: which do I need?

It depends on who needs the translation.

- If you are a viewer and want to read chat in your own language, use a browser extension that translates Twitch chat on your screen. The streamer does not have to set anything up, and only you see the translations.
- If you are the streamer and want everyone in chat to understand each other, you need a bot. It posts translations into the chat itself, so you, your mods and every viewer can read them.

## Can I use Universal Translator alongside Nightbot, StreamElements, or Streamlabs?

Yes. Universal Translator runs right alongside your existing bot. It only handles translation, so your commands, timers, and moderation keep working exactly as they do now. There is nothing to remove or replace: connect your channel and translations start appearing in the same chat.

## How much does a Twitch translation bot cost?

Universal Translator has a free plan with 50 translations a month and no credit card. Paid plans cost €1.99 to €9.99 a month, as a subscription or a one-time 30-day pass. All plans: https://www.universal-translator.io/pricing

## What can Universal Translator not do?

- It translates chat, not your voice: there are no subtitles or captions of your stream audio.
- It works on Twitch only for now.
- Replying with !translate needs a paid plan. Incoming chat is translated on every plan, including the free one.

If you need subtitles of your voice, StreamTranslate does that and runs alongside the bot: https://streamtranslate.live/?utm_source=universal-translator.io&utm_medium=referral
