Can I use StreamTranslate and a chat translation bot together?

Yes. StreamTranslate translates what the streamer says into subtitles; Universal Translator is a Twitch bot that translates what chat says and posts it in chat. They cover different directions of the conversation and do not interfere with each other.

Do I need a chat bot if I already use StreamTranslate?

Not if your chat is quiet and your viewers mostly listen. If your chat is busy and multilingual, a bot helps: it posts each translation for everyone, including viewers and mods who never switched on an overlay, and on paid plans you can reply in a viewer's language with !translate.

Does Universal Translator add subtitles to my stream?

“Do I Still Need a Chat Bot?”

For a stream where you do most of the talking and chat is quiet, that is a fair point — you may not need us. For a chat-heavy stream it leaves three gaps:

Viewers who never switched it on still see a Spanish message they can't read, so they can't join in.

Your mods need to understand every message, not just the ones they opted into.

Replying is still on you. Understanding a viewer doesn't let you answer them in their language.
