# Free Plan vs. Free Trial: What a Free Twitch Translation Bot Really Gives You

"Free" means two different things for Twitch chat translation bots. A trial gives you everything for a few weeks and then stops. A free plan gives you less, but it keeps going. Here is which bot offers which, so day 31 doesn't catch you mid-stream.

## How do I translate my Twitch chat automatically?

Add a translation bot to your channel. It takes about two minutes, and neither you nor your viewers install anything:

1. Sign in with your Twitch account at https://www.universal-translator.io/en/for/free-twitch-translation-bot and authorize Universal Translator.
2. Open Settings and add your Twitch channel.
3. Choose the language you want chat translated into, usually the one you stream in.
4. If your chat is in followers-only mode, make the translation bot a moderator (type /mod and the bot's name in your chat); otherwise Twitch drops its messages.
5. Go live. Messages in other languages are translated in chat within a few seconds.

## What Happens on Day 31

### A free trial

Full access for a set number of days, then the bot stops translating until you pay. Good for a quick test if you already know you'll subscribe. The catch: the clock runs whether you stream that week or not.

### A free plan

A smaller monthly allowance that renews with no end date. You can set the bot up between streams, test it on your real chat when your schedule allows, and only pay once your chat outgrows it.

## The Free Option of Every Twitch Chat Translation Bot

Bots that post translations into chat, checked on each bot's own website. Most of them have a free plan that keeps going, and several give you more for free than we do.

### Universal Translator

Free plan, no end date: 50 translations a month, no credit card. Paid plans €1.99–€9.99 a month, as a monthly subscription or a one-time 30-day pass at the same price with no automatic renewal.

### TransL8 Bot

## If Your Lingo Echo Free Year Just Ended

Lingo Echo gave its early users a year of free access. That year ended on 20 September 2026, and from there it is a paid service; supporters who donated got an extra year. If you were one of those early users, you can extend your access there, or switch to a bot whose free plan doesn't end, then upgrade only when your chat needs it.

## Browser extension or bot: which do I need?

- If you are a viewer and want to read chat in your own language, use a browser extension that translates Twitch chat on your screen. Only you see the translations, and the streamer does not have to set anything up.
- If you are the streamer and want everyone in chat to understand each other, you need a bot. It posts translations into the chat itself, so you, your mods and every viewer can read them.

## What can Universal Translator not do?

- It translates chat, not your voice: there are no subtitles or captions of your stream audio.
- It works on Twitch only for now.
- Replying with !translate needs a paid plan. Incoming chat is translated on every plan, including the free one.

If you need subtitles of your voice, StreamTranslate does that and runs alongside the bot: https://streamtranslate.live/?utm_source=universal-translator.io&utm_medium=referral
